Indie April

To celebrate Indie April, I’m compiling a list of my favorite Indie Reads this year! Be sure to check out these amazing authors, and let me know your favorite indie author in the comments. (Self Recs definitely welcome!)

The Knights of Enar Series

By Juliette Caruso

Currently sitting at three books, the Knights of Enar series (Starting with Knight’s Bride) follows the romance and political intrigue of a kingdom’s best and brightest Knights.

The setting is a fantasy world that blends the best of Medieval and Renaissance settings. Knights in full plate armor, fair maidens who have a mind of their own, and of course, just a little bit of magic.

I was immediately taken in by the series and read all three in one weekend. I think you’ll like them too.

The Oath: The Kingdom of Crescent

By Henry Cantelberry

This feels like a return to classic fantasy. Mysterious magic, an army raised in defense, smarmy politicians, and surprise allies from the plains. This book has it all.

I found this book via TikTok, and the author is an incredibly kind and uplifting fellow. This was a great read, and the adventure is top-tier.

Bound to the Broken Crown (Magebound Courts Book 1)

by Astoria Hope

From humble beginnings to romance with royalty, Isca is a fun heroine to follow. Though honestly, the boys in this book were my favorite. Emrys’s demons are complicated, and his compusure is hanging on by a thread.

The book follows Isca’s rise from shop girl trying to support her family to a court player forced into politics by the corrupt mages council that serves the kingdoms of the continent. Watching as she struggles between what she believes is right and providing for her family, all while falling in love with THE WRONG BROTHER, will have you hooked.

The Viking Omegaverse Series

By Lyx Robinson

I should preface this recommendation by saying I usually hate both why-pick and omegaverse stories. However, Stolen by the Wolves sucked me right in and turned the entire trope set on its head. Lyx Robinson does an amazing job of keeping her Viking characters grounded in enough history to feel real while making them dark enough for you to know you’re reading a fantasy.

Thrain Mordson and his “brothers” are searching for the lost Vanidottir, the legendary daughters of Freja. Partnering with the King of Alba, they find them, only now, they learn that these girls may have minds—and powers—of their own.

(Thrain is my favorite character in the entire series. I could read about him simping for Tamsin all day.)
