Meet H.F. Day
Artist • Author • History Buff • Tea Drinker
H.F. Day writes epic, character-driven fantasy at the seam where history meets myth. Her debut novel, A Tale of Scorched Ash and Elm, follows families, vikings, and outcasts as they navigate love, oath, and war in a world shaped by the old gods. H.F. Day’s approach is research-forward: she works from the Poetic and Prose Eddas and folds in insights from contemporary archaeology and anthropology to keep the texture of daily life, hearth smoke, ship timbers, and lawrock councils, as vivid as the magic.
An illustrator as well as an author, H.F. Day is creating an accompanying, historically minded retelling of Norse myths, pairing spare, faithful prose with atmospheric art. Her visual sensibility is informed by years of locking herself in a room to draw, and by places that left a mark on her imagination, especially Ireland, Spain, Romania, and the mountains of Colorado.
On and off the page, H.F. Day gravitates to stories about identity, conscience, and costly courage. She loves building worlds readers can inhabit and characters who linger after the last chapter. When she’s not drafting or drawing, you’ll probably find her sharing a cup of tea with her cat Juniper or exploring the Atlanta area with her husband and two sons.
